Lewis Announces STOP THE BLEED® Training Partnership

West Henrietta, NY— The Lewis family of companies is proud to announce a first-of-its-kind  STOP THE BLEED® training partnership with the American College of Surgeons.

Advancing the goal of STOP THE BLEED® to make our nation more resilient by better preparing the public to save lives if people nearby are severely bleeding, the Lewis program is the first in the country to certify non-medical professionals as trainers.

Stop the BleedWhen approached, Lewis leadership immediately recognized the phenomenal value of this life-saving training and prioritized the investment in an initial pilot and phased-in rollout.

To ensure the program was self-sufficient and scalable, Lewis adopted a train-the-trainer model and certified its team of nationwide safety specialists. Leveraging lessons learned from the military, Lewis field operations crews were taught on-site, in real-time, before they went to their first job site of the day.

“We appreciate Lewis stepping forward to train their safety specialists in STOP THE BLEED®. We hope other companies will learn from this partnership and also collaborate with us to help spread the lifesaving message of STOP THE BLEED® even further,” said ACS Executive Director Patricia Turner, MD, MBA, FACS.

With a global reach, leveraging over 100,000 instructors across 130 countries, and nearly two million people trained worldwide, STOP THE BLEED® believes it has only scratched the surface.

“As a former U.S. Army Infantry Officer, I viewed this program as the final layer of defense we can build to protect our workers,” added Greyson Barr, Operations Supervisor/Organizational STOP THE BLEED® Champion, Lewis Tree Service. “Tourniquets are standard on army kits but not in the tree care profession despite our high exposure to risk. While many may improvise, not all have the training and knowledge to do it effectively especially during life-altering events.”

About STOP THE BLEED: The STOP THE BLEED® campaign was initiated by a federal interagency workgroup convened by the National Security Council Staff, The White House. The purpose of the campaign is to build national resilience by better preparing the public to save lives by raising awareness of basic actions to stop life threatening bleeding following everyday emergencies and man-made and natural disasters. Advances made by military medicine and research in hemorrhage control during the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq have informed the work of this initiative which exemplifies translation of knowledge back to the homeland to the benefit of the general public.
